In a Cross Parent Nursery (CPN) experiment, a set of germplasm can be added as parents, but the cross design is not yet finalized at planting. After planting and evaluating the experiment based on the desired phenotypic/genotypic results, users must then select the parents, assign their roles (female, male, or both), and create crosses in the Cross Manager tool.
Users are allowed to add parents from other nurseries or trials as long as they are planted at the same site and in the same year and season.
Currently, the EBS Core Breeding supports the following hybridization workflows:
Staggered planting - an entry can be planted multiple times, and each planting batch (which is considered as one rep) is equivalent to one block.
Block planting - one (or more) entry is equivalent to one block.
Provide basic information
The first step in creating the experiment is to give basic information about it and optionally provide additional details.
Click the dropdown field under Experiment Type and select Cross Parent Nursery.
Fill in the necessary fields, especially those marked with an asterisk ( * ).
It is recommended to fill out the optional fields to identify the experiment when it is used in the future.
Once done, click Save.
The Parent List tab will open with the notification that the experiment is successfully created.
Great job! What is the next step?
Add parents to the CPN experiment.
Create changes to the parents.
