Prepare cross list for data collection
Once you have finalized your cross lists and their trait protocols, you may now use them for data collection. The Cross Manager allows breeders to generate trait and location files and upload the collected traits into the Data Terminal tool. You will need the Field Book app to collect the trait data.
Let’s get started with downloading the files needed for data collection!
Download cross lists
In Cross Manager, you may download and access your cross list depending on your EBS access.
From the Cross Manager browser, tick the of your cross list with either cross list specified and finalized status.
Click the Download () button and select among the three test cross interfaces. To know more about the information included in each test cross interface, click on the dropdown menu button below.
Your cross list will be automatically saved in your local storage.
Download data collection files
Though there are other data collection tools available, we encourage you to use the Field Book app by PhenoApps (only available for Android devices) to ensure consistent and accurate data collection. Field Book requires 2 files from the EBS: the trait and cross list files.
1. From the Cross Manager browser, tick the checkbox of your finalized cross list.
2. On the upper right corner of the experiment manager table, click the Download cross data collection files () button then Trait data collection.
3. Wait to be redirected to the Download Data Collection Files page. You may also see the traits you previously selected in the trait protocol.
If you wish to add a new Trait or Trait Protocol, simply click on the dropdown menu on the left, select which trait or trait lists to add, and click Add.
4. Under the Selected Traits section, tick the checkbox beside the trait file that you want to download then click the Export traits () button on the upper-right. After that, click Export cross list ().
You have the option of downloading trait files with or without trait abbreviations. Click and select With trait abbreviations or For FieldBook App.
5. Once the download is finished, you can go back to the experiment manager by clicking the back button (←) at the top of the browser.
You can now view the upload transaction for cross lists with two or more experiments or occurrences.
Great job! You now have the 2 files needed for data collection using the Field Book application. Once you’re done collecting data you can now upload it to the Cross Manager.
Upload collected data
After conducting fieldwork and collecting data using the Field Book app, your collected trait data should be exported as a CSV file.
1. On the upper right of the Cross Manager table, click the Upload cross data collection files () button. Wait to be redirected to the Data Collection Upload page.
2. On the lower right corner of the screen, click Browse and select the CSV file containing your collected trait data on your local device.
3. Once the file loads onto the upload tool, click Upload.
4. Wait for the tool to finish checking your file for formatting errors such as unrecognized headers or duplicate values. If you have encountered an error while uploading, click Remove to delete the file and re-upload.
5. Once approved, you will be directed to the Data Collection browser page, and a pop-up message should appear on your screen notifying you that the upload was successful.
Upload other file types
The collected data from other software applications such as KSU Inventory, Easy Harvest, and Moisture Meter 1 can also be uploaded to the Data Collection tool. Data collection files from these apps will be uploaded in a different upload window.
1. On the upper right of the Cross Manager table, click the Upload cross data collection files () button. Wait to be redirected to the Data Collection Upload page.
2. Wait to be redirected to the Data Collection Upload page. On the lower right corner click More File Upload Options.
3. The page will display other supported file upload options. Click the Upload button () depending on the application used for data collection.
4. From the File Upload modal window, click Browse and select the CSV file containing your collected trait data on your local device.
5. Once the file loads onto the upload tool, click Upload.

7. Once approved, you will be directed to the Data Collection browser page, and a pop-up message should appear on your screen notifying you that the upload was successful.
Great job! You’ve successfully uploaded your collected data. Continue with your breeding process by using the Data Collection - Quality Control to validate and commit crop data.
