Collect

Collect is a feature in Field Book that allows users to enter and record data seamlessly. It functions like a spreadsheet, providing clear structure for organizing important details during the data collection process.

In the image below for FIELD Import Occurrence, we can see that when importing an occurrence, we already know theimage-20240819-025035.png number of traits involved and have defined the image-20240819-025108.png Primary and image-20240819-025141.png Secondary identifiers. But how can we view this in the Collect section? The image below shows how the occurrence identifiers are represented with color-coded numbers.

In the COLLECT Data Collection image,

  • image-20240819-025035.pngdisplays the traits and variables available for the occurrence.

  • image-20240819-025108.pnghighlights the primary identifier, which is the Plot, mapped to the plot number of the occurrence.

  • image-20240819-025141.png shows the secondary identifier, ObservationUnitName, mapped to the Plot Code of the occurrence.

Once you have confirmed that your occurrence and plot are correct, you can begin entering your data using the app's keyboard. The keyboard will adjust based on the data type of the trait—sometimes it will be numeric, alphanumeric, or display option buttons if the trait has predefined choices. In those cases, simply select the appropriate value from the available buttons.
