Trait Variables
Trait variables are measurable traits, conditions, or factors that are observed, recorded, or computed to characterize plant performance. They can describe the plant itself, the environment it grows in, or the treatments applied. EBS follows the Crop Ontology standard, where a variable is a unique combination of property/trait, method, and scale.
In Trait Search, the common variables per trait are the property (what to measure), method (how to measure), and scale (what is accepted). These variables can be seen when you view the trait information.
Property
refers to the basic information about the trait to be measured or observed; any changes recorded are displayed in the audit information panel
Method
refers to the procedure or protocol on how the property will be measured or observed
Scale
refers to the unit of measurement and/or allowed values that the trait can hold
