Collect
Collect is a feature in Field Book that allows users to enter and record data seamlessly. It functions like a spreadsheet, providing a clear structure for organizing details during the data collection process.
In the image below on FIELD Import Occurrence, we can see that when importing an occurrence, the number of traits involved, the
Primary, and
Secondary identifiers have been defined. They are also viewed in the Collect section during data collection.
The image below shows how the occurrence identifiers are represented with color-coded numbers.
Navigate and enter data
The COLLECT Data Collection view:
displays the traits available for the occurrence.
highlights the primary identifier, which is the Plot, mapped to the plot number of the occurrence.
shows the secondary identifier, ObservationUnitName, mapped to the Plot Code of the occurrence.
Once users have confirmed that the occurrence and plot are correct, they can begin entering their data using the app's keyboard. The keyboard will adjust based on the trait’s data type—sometimes it will be numeric, alphanumeric, or display option buttons if the trait has predefined choices. In those cases, simply select the appropriate value from the available buttons.
When the value is red, it indicates that the value is saved.
Using the mobile application's bottom menu,
To delete the value, click the
trash bin icon.
If no value applies, click
NA icon.
Collect buttons
Scan QR code per plot
The Camera Scanner icon allows users to quickly scan field labels to locate plots, removing the need to search manually by clicking through each one. This feature enables users to scan, set traits, and collect data efficiently.
View data through the datagrid
The Grid view icon provides users with a quick overview of their collected data, making it easy to spot any missing plot traits. Users can simply click on an empty cell to instantly navigate to the specific plot and trait where data is missing.
From the top menu, select
Grid.
If there are empty cells, click on them to be directed to the corresponding plot and trait where the missing data can be entered.
To adjust row headers, simply click the
Row Headers icon on the right side of the top menu.
The grid view will display the updated row labels.
View the summary of collected data
The Summary icon offers a quick overview of your plot data, making it easy to identify any missing or misplaced information collected.
From the top menu, select
Summary to see all trait data for each plot.
To customize your summary view, click the
pencil icon on the upper right of the top menu.
Check or uncheck the variables to add or remove from the plot Summary view. Rest assured, this will not impact the traits or variables set in Traits.
After that, check the plot Summary view.
Mark a plot as NA
The NA icon enables users to easily input "NA" for any trait value. Instead of manually typing NA multiple times, this tool provides a convenient tap function that automatically enters NA for each trait.
Delete values from a plot
The Trash icon lets users quickly delete all values for a specific trait in a plot, saving time compared to erasing each character one by one.
